Oil refill as an occasion to replace the clutch)

on
February 8, 2017

As the heavy frosts came (stable -10 to -20 degrees Celsius) my shifts stopped working properly when the car had not been warmed up beforehand. Having scratched my head on the issue of choosing the proper oil (for this was the first time I’ve had this problem)), I understood that this wouldn’t be an easy thing to do and decided to call the professionals (Igor and Valera). As a result I’ve bought 4 litres of 75w90 GL4. It came out to be enough for the transmission and the transfer case.

So I sit down into the car, try out the transmission – everything works fine when the car is off. I begin to suspect something. I turn the car on – and ooops, it refuses to work again. And the clutch is suspiciously soft. So there’s nothing I can do. My friend towed my Dragon and took us to the service. I’ve got to say that it was a completely new experience for me – driving with a towing rope. It was a blessing that the car was on and I was spared of the necessity to struggle with the wheel and the brakes with all of my girl power)))) But there were definitely a lot of emotions))

Especially when you realize that a friend of yours is a reddish for he does not hit the brakes but stops using the inertion instead.

In the end we’ve decided not to take everything apart but to add some braking fluid into the system as a check-up. Only 50 ml went in (of course we’d checked it visually on the lift first to see if there’d been any leaks). After having waited for a while, and making sure that the leakage was definitely not our case, we replaced the oil. There happened to be some ugly-brownish mud.

We decided not to go anywhere far yet; even though everything had started working again, it is not perfect yet – the clutch works only when pushed all the way through. Another decision was to order the full set – clutch basket with the disk, the cylinders, the hose and all. Judging by the condition of all the other joints during the purchase check, no one has ever checked these things and, assumingly, the condition is not good at all.

Now I have a bottle of the braking fluid with me at all times, up until my package arrives.

To be continued))
