Our Travels Adventures

National Park “Dvorichanskyi”

For a pretty long time we dreamed to visit this national park. Much has been written about the beauty and delight of this place. Many visitors notice the unusualness of this place. We were really excited by this park, but different circumstances, like lack of free time and energy, prevented us from traveling. But one day we made a willful decision to go there no matter what.
First of all, I tried to find out all the available information about this national park. I learned from the Internet that somewhere in that area the park staff equipped some tourist paths. But nowhere was written where they are. So we just marked a point that we liked and started our adventure. We acted like this more than once during our adventures.))

There are two routes you can use to get there from Kharkov by a car. The first road is passing through Chuhuiv city and the second one through an urban-type settlement Velykyi Burluk. We were in Velykyi Burluk last spring and we had no reason to go there again. In addition, there was a beautiful smooth road through Chuhuiv, with the exception in the Kupyansk district, where the road was simply terrible.

Sometimes it seems to me that Google’s navigation knows not only the quality of the road surface, but also the speed with which a particular person moves along such surface)). At least, it can create such an impression for me. We knew that the map shows more kilometers, but less time then another route. This was the reason to choose this road. We couldn’t get to the point I’ve mapped on the map, because Google had laid a route through private territory. Google does not know about all the roads available out there, even with an asphalt surface. It just led to the fence of private territory. We were lucky that we knew about other roads and used them. When we got to the first cliff, we realized that these hills were named “mountains” for promotional purposes. We left the car and went to explore this place on foot. An unpleasant discovery was the fact that there are almost no paths, except one near one of the two biggest rocks. There is the marshland mixed with prickles and nettles around the rocks.

It was one of the ravines, which the park is advertised.
I should say that there are a lot of different flora and fauna here. But most of it are nettles, mosquitoes and different thorny plants))
This area has become a reserve territory because the chalk vegetation, which is unique for the territory of Ukraine.

It can be seen if you climb the hills.

I was amazed by the obsessive smell of bedbugs! It comes from the soil, where the chalk is not covered by vegetation.

I shoot this “huge rock” from a normal angle to show the scale of the mountainous terrain in Dvorichanskyi national park))) To clarify the scale, you can look at the nests of swifts)))
On this territory you can find a lot of bobak marmots, also known as steppe marmots. They were clearly frightened by our presence and hid. But we constantly met their homes. These were holes 30-40 centimeters in diameter. These are quite fat animals. We heard their whistling over the neighboring hill, but they did not dare to meet us.
We circled around the park another 50 kilometers and found a nice place for a tea break. It was a small river beach near Kam`yanka village.

When we took water to extinguish the fire, we were amazed how clean it is, despite the fact that there was a lot of mud in the river.
It is pretty nice to have a good meal in addition to the tea))

Special camping tea set, tablet of the “Golden Yui Bin” pu’er – and we had a lot of pleasure! Good tea can be brewed for a long time, so we had a lot of time for enjoyment))
And then we went home!
